The effect of the location of arteriovenous fistula on the right ventricle in end stage renal disease patients indicated for hemodialysis

Abstract Background End-stage renal disease (ESRD) has significantly increased in developing countries such as Egypt [1]. There are many sites for arteriovenous fistula (AVF) creation. The most common AVF radio-cephalic (RC-AVF) followed by brachio-cephalic (BC-AVF) [2]. To date, there no significant studies discussing the possible correlation between location and abnormalities right ventricle (RV) hemodialysis (HD) patients. Objective determine best order to ensure least hazardous side effects of on RV. Methods Our study, designed an interventional included 50 ESRD patients referred primary construction start HD first time. Patients were divided into two groups, 25 each. one group underwent a RC-AVF other had BC-AVF. We assessed RV dimensional transthoracic echocardiography (2D TTE) twice each patient, firstly just before surgery secondly three months after construction. Results was statistically difference study groups regarding change Tei index (p=0.001) with decrease radial (Mean ± SD = −0.19±0.2) increase brachial 0.02±0.12), ventricular outflow tract proximal diameter (p<0.001) −2.32±5.49) larger 2.94±3.14). Changes dimensions functional parameters did not show difference.
